Over the years, additional layers of lore have been ascribed to the Buster Sword through successive Final Fantasy VII Compilation titles. While the 'Berserker' concept was ultimately scrapped, traces of it can still be found in Cloud today, from his Omnislash Limit Break (which also resembles the fighting style of the Berserker Nobodies from Kingdom Hearts II also designed by Tetsuya Nomura), to the general oversize of the Buster Sword itself.

The tweet then goes on to describe that the character would later be able to fight with both hands on the hilt of the sword, in much the same way as Cloud Strife is known to do these days. When not in use, the sword would rest on his back, secured in place by a strong magnet. Prior to being refined into the Cloud Strife of today, this proto-Cloud was to wield his sword only in his right hand, with his left arm being 'sealed away' by a bracelet. Translated by Siliconera, the tweet explains that in the preliminary stages of Final Fantasy VII's development, Cloud Strife was simply referred to as 'Berserker' - this archetype was to form the basis of his character and battle style.
